Checking MIDI…

Learn to read sheet music by playing it.

Look at the note on the staff, then play it on your MIDI keyboard. The app recognises pitch, scores accuracy and tracks your progress locally.

Identify the note

Play the displayed note to begin.
MIDI: play any octave of the displayed pitch. The app accepts octave equivalents in Note Trainer. On-screen keys and your computer keyboard also work.

How to learn sheet music with Notation Lab

Start with treble and bass clef note recognition, then read short melodies, practise rhythmic values and copy phrases in standard notation. The five mastery bars use your exercise results; opening a lesson does not award mastery.

Compound metres such as 6/8 and additive metres such as 2+2+3/8 help you practise different beat groupings. The eight-week course contains forty expandable steps. Read the complete practice guide.

Safari supports the virtual and computer keyboards. Physical MIDI requires a browser with Web MIDI support. Progress stays in this browser; use backup export and restore to transfer it.
